It looks like longer skirts are in for latin competition costumes. This is something I noticed last year while watching the 2008 Blackpool latin finals. I continue to see longer hemlines, especially in competitions in Europe. Most of them have a single or double slit(s) that go(es) up quite high so the skirt doesn’t get in the way of dancing.

Still, some skirts are so long…. some are at the ankle length. Overall, the knee length seems to be becoming a norm.

I paid special attention to jive where there are kicks and flicks when I watched competition videos. Since high-level dancers are very skillful, they hold their long skirt when necessary and the movement itself accentuate their routine. I, on the other hand, can’t handle long skirts well for a jive.

Anyways, here’s a collection of long skirted female competitors from recent competitions.
